Wuthering Waves · 4★ Resonator
"Dragon's Breath" The crimson dragon who turns his anger into flames
Mortefi is a scientist of noble descent from the New Federation; he conducts applied Tacetite research in Huaxu Academy's security unit and can turn his pent-up anger into blazing fire. He is a 4★ Resonator who wields Pistols with the Fusion element. His Resonance Liberation applies Burning Rhapsody to the team: The active character's Basic and Heavy Attack hits make Mortefi perform Coordinated Attacks with Marcato bullets from off-field. His Outro Skill amplifies the next character's Heavy Attack damage by 38%, which makes him one of the best 4★ partners for Heavy Attack-focused DPS units such as Yangyang (Xuanling), Augusta, Jingran and Jiyan.
Mortefi is a 4★ Resonator and can drop from every standard and limited Convene banner. In the second phase of version 3.6 (September 10 to 29, 2026), he was one of the rate-up 4★ characters on the character banners, including Jingran's "Where Santu Beckons" banner, alongside Aalto and Yuanwu. There is no permanent way to get him for free, so you need to pull him again for his important S4 and S6 Sequences.
2-piece: Energy Regen + {0}
5-piece: Increase the Resonator's Coordinated Attack DMG by {0}. Upon a critical hit of Coordinated Attack, increase the active Resonator's ATK by {1} for {2}s.
Increases Coordinated Attack damage by 80%, and when Marcatos land critical hits, the active character gains 20% ATK for 4 s; it becomes most efficient with S4, which extends Burning Rhapsody by 7 s.
2-piece: Energy Regen + {0}.
5-piece: Upon using Outro Skill, increases the ATK of the next Resonator by 22.5% for 15s.
The safer choice if you do not have S4: It grants Energy Regen and raises the next character's ATK by 22.5% after the Outro, complementing his Heavy Attack buff.
2-piece: Fusion DMG + 10%.
If you do not have well-rolled Echoes for the 5-piece sets yet, 2-piece Moonlit Clouds + 2-piece Molten Rift gives you Energy Regen and Fusion DMG together.
In the main slot it increases Coordinated Attack damage by 40%, so together with Empyrean Anthem it multiplies Marcato damage; if you use Moonlit Clouds, equip Impermanence Heron instead.
To trigger Empyrean Anthem's ATK buff often, raise Crit. Rate to around 65-70%; also collect enough Energy Regen to use the Liberation every rotation. Marcatos count as Resonance Liberation damage, so that bonus is useful too.
The standard banner's 5★ Pistols and the best option for Mortefi: 24.3% Crit. Rate, 12.8% Energy Regen and 10% ATK for the next character for 14 s after the Outro.
Carlotta's signature weapon; its 72% Crit. DMG main stat and 12% ATK are strong, and the 48% Resonance Skill DMG bonus after Liberation also boosts Fury Fugue.
One of the best 4★ options: The Resonance Skill grants 6 Resonance Energy and 10% ATK for 16 s (once every 20 s), which helps you use the Liberation more often.
4★; its 51.8% Energy Regen main stat and the 8 Concerto Energy refund after the Resonance Skill get the Outro ready quickly, which is ideal for quick-swap teams.
4★; offers a 30.4% ATK main stat and 20% Resonance Skill DMG bonus for 15 s after the Intro.
Totals are calculated from game data: Every ascension stage from 1→90, skills 1→10 and every skill tree node.
Fires a Fusion combo of up to four shots with his twin pistols and flames; the Heavy Attack aims and sends a powerful shot, and in midair he consumes Stamina to fire rapidly. Hits fill Annoyance, his Forte resource.
Hurls a bolt of flame forward, dealing Fusion damage. Normal Attack hits within the next 5 s grant extra Annoyance.
Mortefi can build up to 100 Annoyance; it fills with Normal Attack, Intro and Passionate Variation hits. At 100, the Resonance Skill turns into Fury Fugue, a high-speed flame bolt that consumes all Annoyance and counts as Resonance Skill damage.
Deals Fusion damage and applies Burning Rhapsody to the whole team. During it, every Basic Attack hit of the active character triggers a Coordinated Attack that fires 1 Marcato, and every Heavy Attack hit fires 2 (once every 0.35 s); it is much more efficient with Heavy Attack-based DPS units.
Attacks the target on entry, dealing Fusion damage and granting Annoyance. It is the opening move of his short rotation.
The incoming character's Heavy Attack damage is amplified by 38% (Amplify) for 14 s or until they leave the field. This buff is what makes Mortefi indispensable for Heavy Attack-focused teams.
After using Passionate Variation, Fury Fugue's damage increases by 25% for 8 s. That is why you should always use Fury Fugue after Passionate Variation.
During Burning Rhapsody, each Marcato hit increases the damage of the next by 1.5% (once every 0.35 s, stacks 50 times). The effect resets when Burning Rhapsody ends; the more you hit during the buff, the stronger it gets.
When the target's Off-Tune level is full, Mortefi can perform the Pistols-specific Tune Break attack; it is a mechanic shared by all Resonators that opens an extra damage window on the staggered enemy.
S4 is the most important Sequence because it extends Burning Rhapsody by 7 s and makes Empyrean Anthem efficient; S3 and S6 are strong upgrades too. As a 4★, his Sequences pile up over time as you pull on banners.
During Burning Rhapsody, 2 Marcatos are also fired when the active character uses a Resonance Skill.
Gains an extra 10 Resonance Energy after using an Echo Skill (once every 20 s).
During Burning Rhapsody, the Crit. DMG of Marcatos increases by 30%.
Burning Rhapsody's duration is extended by 7 s; the most valuable Sequence, as it greatly increases the number of Coordinated Attacks and the efficiency of Empyrean Anthem.
When Passionate Variation or Fury Fugue hits, 4 Marcatos are fired at half damage.
Using Violent Finale increases the whole team's ATK by 20% for 20 s.
Yangyang (Xuanling)
Mortefi
Chisa
Yangyang (Xuanling) deals most of her damage with Heavy Attacks, so Mortefi's 38% Outro and Coordinated Attacks suit her perfectly; Chisa rounds out the team as a support.
Augusta
Mortefi
Shorekeeper
Augusta gets most of her damage from Heavy Attacks, so Mortefi is a good alternative next to her if you do not have Iuno; Shorekeeper provides healing and a crit bonus.

Mortefi is a 4★, so he can drop from every standard and limited Convene banner. In the second phase of version 3.6, he was one of the rate-up 4★ characters on Jingran's "Where Santu Beckons" banner; there is no permanent way to get him for free.
If you have S4, 5-piece Empyrean Anthem with Hecate as the main Echo is the best; it multiplies Coordinated Attack damage. Without S4, 5-piece Moonlit Clouds and Impermanence Heron are the safer choice.
He has no signature weapon; the best option is the standard 5★ Static Mist, followed by Carlotta's signature weapon The Last Dance. On the 4★ side, Relativistic Jet, Cadenza and Undying Flame are good alternatives.
Yes, he is one of the most valuable 4★ characters: Thanks to his Outro, which amplifies Heavy Attacks by 38%, and his off-field Coordinated Attacks, he still finds a place in current teams even in version 3.6.
With any DPS who deals damage through Heavy Attacks: Yangyang (Xuanling), Augusta, Jingran and Jiyan are the best examples. You can round out the team with a healer such as Shorekeeper or Verina.
For Ascension he needs Rage Tacet Core from Inferno Rider, the local specialty Coriolus and Whisperin Cores. His skills use the Phlogiston series, Whisperin Cores and the weekly material Monument Bell from Bell-Borne Geochelone.
