🧍 Minecraft player commands

Switch modes, teleport, give effects: Every command that acts directly on players, with examples you can copy and paste.

Minecraft 26.3  14 commands · Java Edition

The two most used commands in this group change the game mode and teleport. When changing modes, the numbers from older versions (0, 1, 2, 3) are no longer accepted; you need to type the mode's name.

Teleporting gets much easier once you know the three ways to write a coordinate: A plain number is an absolute position, the tilde is relative to where you are standing, and the caret works relative to the direction you are facing. If you want to change dimensions, you need to wrap the teleport command in execute.

The effect, experience and attribute commands touch a player's numbers. You can make an effect last forever, raise health permanently or double your speed. All of it can be undone: Clearing effects and resetting attributes to their old values takes a single line.

Just type /gamemode creative. To switch someone else too, add their player name or a target selector at the end; for example, /gamemode creative @a puts everyone in Creative.

How do I teleport to another dimension?

The teleport command cannot change dimensions on its own. With the pattern /execute in the_nether run tp @s ~ ~ ~ you can move to the Nether counterpart of your current coordinates.
