Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide

Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is set against a war that erupts on the Korean Peninsula and arrives with campaign, multiplayer and DMZ modes.

According to information Oyun Günlüğü gathered from Activision and XBOX Wire, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 can be played on PC through Steam, Battle.net and the XBOX app. The game skips last-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, and its XBOX Play Anywhere support means one purchase covers both XBOX Series X|S and the XBOX app on PC. The Standard Edition sells for $69.99 and the Vault Edition for $99.99. Upgrading from Standard to Vault costs $30. The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack with Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix skins, the Special Forces Operator Pack, five signature weapons and one season of BlackCell access, among other content.

Game Pass arrival set for 2027

Modern Warfare 4 was not added to the Game Pass library at launch. In a statement on October 15, Activision said the game has to be purchased separately and will come to Game Pass in the 2027 holiday season. An exact date has not been announced yet. On XBOX, online multiplayer also requires a separate Game Pass Essential subscription.

Call of Duty returns to Nintendo with Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 version released on the same day as the other platforms. As reported by IGN, it is the first mainline Call of Duty game on a Nintendo console since Call of Duty: Ghosts came to Wii U in 2013. Infinity Ward developed the Switch 2 version together with Digital Legends, and it includes the full campaign, multiplayer and DMZ modes. Crossplay puts Switch 2 players in the same lobbies as players on other consoles and PC.

War breaks out in Korea

The game follows 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 and continues Captain Price’s story. In the campaign, North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula, and a squad of young South Korean soldiers tries to survive as the front line collapses. Players control Private Park as he faces real combat for the first time. On the other side of the world, Captain Price has become an outlaw and fights a personal war while staying one step ahead of those hunting him. Highlights of the campaign include trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters firefights in New York, chases in Paris and night raids with an SAS team in Mumbai.

Players who pre-ordered digitally have had early access to the campaign since October 16 and to DMZ since October 20.

20 maps in multiplayer

Multiplayer launches with 20 maps in total. There are 12 classic 6v6 maps, three 32v32 Ground War maps, four 2v2 Gunfight maps and Kill Block. Kill Block is the standout of the lineup. It is built from three modular sections and changes from match to match across more than 500 different layouts. Some of its sections are inspired by familiar locations, including Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Storage Town from Warzone’s Verdansk and Shoot House from 2019’s Modern Warfare. At launch, the map supports 3v3 and the new 10v10 Gunfight modes.

The game has more than a dozen modes, 33 weapons and 33 operators. The new modes are:

  • Inflation, where cash collected from enemies turns the player into a target
  • Hijack, where a data device has to be carried to the enemy base
  • Collateral, which combines Search & Destroy with a buy phase
  • Combat Outpost, which turns Ground War into a zone-control mode

Infected and the new Possession mode will be added next week for Halloween. Modern Warfare 4 is also the first Call of Duty game with two separate Prestige paths. It is the first Modern Warfare game where each of the 17 killstreaks can be assigned to individual class loadouts.

DMZ is back

The series’ extraction mode DMZ also returns with Modern Warfare 4. The mode takes place in the Hajin region. Players drop into the combat zone solo or with a squad as off-the-books agents tasked with recovering advanced military technology left behind after the war. Camo progression is shared between multiplayer and DMZ, and Call of Duty: Warzone will join this system when Season 1 begins.

PC system requirements

On PC, the game requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to be enabled, plus an SSD with 115 GB of free space.

  • Minimum: Windows 10, an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 processor, 8 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 470, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970/1060 or Intel Arc A580 graphics card.
