🧪 Minecraft brewing and enchanting recipes
The setup you need before brewing potions and enchanting, plus every potion recipe: The stand, bottles, ingredients, books and anvil.
Brewing starts with two blocks: The Brewing Stand and the cauldron. The Brewing Stand is made from a Blaze Rod and three cobblestone, so you need to visit the Nether first. Three glass give three glass bottles; a cauldron or any water source is enough to fill them.
Potions are brewed in a chain. Add Nether Wart to a Water Bottle to get an Awkward Potion, and most useful potions come from adding one ingredient to the Awkward Potion: Blaze Powder gives strength, sugar gives swiftness, Magma Cream gives fire resistance. Redstone Dust extends the effect, Glowstone Dust raises its level and a Fermented Spider Eye reverses it. Gunpowder turns a potion into a throwable Splash Potion, and Dragon's Breath turns that into a Lingering Potion that leaves a cloud on the ground.
On the enchanting side, the enchanting table is made from a book, diamonds and obsidian. What raises its level is the bookshelves around it: Fifteen bookshelves placed one block away unlock the highest level. A bookshelf takes three books and six planks, and a book needs leather and paper.
The anvil is needed to apply enchanted books to items and to repair them. It takes three blocks of iron and four ingots, which is thirty-one iron ingots in total. It wears down with use and eventually breaks.

Common questions
How do I raise the level of my enchanting table?
Place bookshelves around the table with one block of air between them and the table. Fifteen bookshelves unlock the highest level; the blocks in between must be empty and the bookshelves level with the table or one block higher.
How do you make potions in Minecraft?
Put a water bottle in a Brewing Stand and add Nether Wart to get an Awkward Potion. Then add the ingredient for the effect you want: Blaze Powder for strength, Glistering Melon Slice for healing, Golden Carrot for night vision and so on. Every potion's recipe is on its own page.
Why isn't my brewing stand working?
Most of the time it is out of fuel: The Brewing Stand runs on Blaze Powder. Brewing also does not start without water-filled glass bottles and a base ingredient (usually Nether Wart).
