⚔️ Minecraft tool and weapon recipes

From pickaxes to bows and wood to netherite: Which tool is made from which material, and its layout on the grid.

Minecraft 26.3  52 craftable items · recipes from the game's own files

Tool recipes are built on a single template: Material on top, sticks below. A pickaxe takes three pieces of material and the axe and shovel take different amounts, but the layout logic never changes. If you know the shape of a wooden pickaxe, you know the diamond one too.

The material order is wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite. Gold is fast but wears out quickly; iron is the backbone of everyday use. Netherite is not crafted on a table: You upgrade a diamond tool with a netherite ingot at a Smithing Table, so a netherite pickaxe's recipe is an upgrade recipe.

On the weapon side, the sword is for melee, and the bow and crossbow are for range. The bow needs string, the crossbow also needs iron and a tripwire hook, and arrows come from flint, sticks and feathers.

Common questions

Which pickaxe mines which ore?

A stone pickaxe drops iron and copper, an iron pickaxe gold, diamond and emerald, and a diamond pickaxe obsidian. Mine with the wrong pickaxe and the block drops nothing.

How do you make a netherite tool?

Not on a crafting table. Put the diamond tool, a netherite ingot and an upgrade template into a Smithing Table. Enchantments and names are kept after the upgrade.
