Changing the name others see in Roblox is a short three-step process. You do not need Robux or any other currency. A Display Name change is free; there is only a 7 day wait between changes.
How to write a fancy Display Name in Roblox
-
1
Use the generator

-
2
Settings, Account Info
Sign in to Roblox.com and click the gear (Settings) icon at the top right. Switch to the Account Info tab in the menu that opens. You will see the Display Name field there.
-

Paste the nickname into the Display Name box and press Save. The change is free and takes effect right away. The next change waits for the 7 day cooldown.
Display Name vs Username
Username (for example NightRider42): The unique @username you chose when creating your account. It can only contain English letters, numbers and underscores. Changing it needs Robux, and this is the name people find you by in search.
Display Name (for example ꧁NightRider꧂): The name shown in games and on your profile. It supports Unicode, so accented letters and most symbols work. Changing it is free, once every 7 days.
Fancy symbols that work in a Roblox Display Name
Roblox accepts most of Unicode in a Display Name. The moderation filter can still reject some combinations, and it is stricter on accounts under 13.
Square brackets and frames
The safest group, it almost always gets through: 【】 『』 〘〙 〖〗 ◤◥ ◣◢
Ornate brackets and decorative frames
Styles popular on Roblox: ꧁꧂ ༺༻ ❰❱ ⫷⫸
Decoration symbols and emoji look-alikes
Single symbol decorations: ★ ✦ ♛ ☠ ⚔ ♥ 彡 乂 ➤
Small caps
Popular in the Roblox community: ᴋɪɴɢ, ᴋɪʟʟᴇʀ, ɢᴀᴍᴇʀ, ᴘʀᴏ
A note on Roblox moderation
Roblox's automatic moderation filter can flag some character combinations as "inappropriate"; repeated violations can lead to an account warning or a temporary ban. The filter is much stricter on accounts under 13. If a nickname is rejected, try a simpler alternative.

Roblox name rules and character limit
A Display Name must be 3 to 20 characters long. A Username is 3 to 20 characters and can only contain English letters, numbers and an underscore (_). Spaces, accented letters and Unicode symbols are accepted in the Display Name.
Roblox applies stricter filtering to accounts under 13: Some names are blocked by word lists. The filter is more flexible on adult accounts, but names with swearing, impersonation or abuse are still banned. If community rule violations repeat, the Display Name can be reset automatically or the account suspended.
Roblox vs PUBG nicknames
The two games' name systems differ clearly:
- Two-layer system: Roblox separates the Username (permanent ID) from the Display Name (what others see). PUBG has a single name field.
- Cost: A Roblox Display Name change is free (7 day cooldown). In PUBG every name change needs a Rename Card bought with UC.
- Unicode tolerance: The Roblox Display Name is much more flexible than PUBG; even mathematical bold and italic styles mostly work.
- Moderation: Roblox filters for under-13 accounts are much stricter; PUBG has no age-based filter.
