Racing games
A competitive genre built on speed and car control, on land, in the air or on water.

What is the racing genre?
The core of a racing game comes down to one question: How do you finish the same track faster than your rivals? The answer lies in knowing your braking points, taking the right line through corners and keeping the car on the limit. That makes racing one of the genres where getting better through repetition is most visible.
The genre lives at two poles. The simulation side models everything from tire temperature to suspension settings and rewards real track knowledge. The arcade side deliberately bends physics and puts drifting and the sense of speed first. Games in between blend the two with open-world free driving, tuning and career modes.
What defines it?
Real progress means learning braking and throttle points by driving the same track again and again.
Weight transfer and the grip model are the first things that define a racing game.
Settings from gear ratios to aero can turn the same car into something completely different.
Often the real rival is not another driver but your own best lap.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a steering wheel for racing games?
No. You can play with a controller or a keyboard, and arcade-style games are tuned for that. On the simulation side, a wheel clearly adds both precision and enjoyment.
What does sim-arcade mean?
It describes the middle ground that tries to build a realistic driving feel without punishing the player. The physics are believable, but driving aids and forgiving grip make it fun from the first minute.
