Salient Games has announced Realpolitiks 4: Back to the Roots, the next entry in the grand strategy series that lets players lead virtually any country and shape global politics. The fourth game in the series will launch on PC in 2027.

According to information Oyun Günlüğü received from Salient Games, Realpolitiks 4 returns to the foundations of the original Realpolitiks: Accessible real-time gameplay, the freedom to set your own goals and a competition in which economic strength, diplomacy and military power are tools for building a nation’s standing. The game expands this formula with new systems and a clearer interface, making it easier to assess the situation and understand the consequences of decisions.

A fresh start under a new owner

The announcement marks a fresh start for the series following Salient Games’ acquisition of the Realpolitiks rights. The new team developing the fourth entry began with a thorough review of previous games, looking at the features that worked best, the elements that needed improvement and community feedback. The original Realpolitiks, the best-received game in the series, remains the main point of reference.

The Back to the Roots subtitle reflects this direction. The developers aim to preserve the immediacy and freedom of the original while giving players more ways to influence their country’s domestic affairs and international standing. A redesigned interface, better-organized information and a clearer presentation of consequences are intended to help both series veterans and newcomers to geopolitical strategy.

Main scenario starts on January 1, 2000

The main scenario, “Into the New Millennium,” begins on January 1, 2000, when many of the events that shaped today’s world had yet to unfold. Players will face the challenges of the past quarter-century, from economic crises and the expansion of international organizations to rising tensions and conflicts, and their decisions can set their country and the world around it on a different path.

In Realpolitiks 4, players define success on their own terms, whether through economic might, military dominance, space conquest or the global spread of their chosen ideology. They can even reshape the world order so that far-left or far-right governments become the dominant force.

International organizations, advisors and interest groups

International organizations play a deeper role, with institutions such as the EU, NATO, CIS and BRICS featuring accession processes, voting and opportunities to influence their future. Advisors inspired by figures such as Bismarck, Keynes and Adam Smith bring their own agendas, offering different development paths and reform projects, and keeping their trust depends on the policies players pursue.

Interest groups react to conditions in the country, make demands and compete for public support. Governments can cooperate with their leaders or act to undermine them, facing the political consequences. Tax policy lets players balance government revenue, economic development and public sentiment, while stock markets and investments allow them to grow national capital amid changing market conditions.

Military operations and space program

Players will have greater control over military operations, choosing the forces, operational pace and launch date while taking logistics, terrain and weather into account. Clearer forecasts will help them assess their chances of success and expected losses.

A space program allows countries to expand beyond Earth, opening another arena for international competition. Expanded historical events and decisions, meanwhile, bring global crises and country-specific challenges that can shape an alternative course for the 21st century.

Demo coming within weeks

The original Realpolitiks was released on February 16, 2017, so the fourth game’s planned 2027 launch will mark the franchise’s tenth anniversary. Salient Games plans to release a playable Realpolitiks 4 demo within a few weeks of the announcement, giving players a firsthand look at the series’ new direction before launch.
