Studio Wildcard has released a new update for Ark: Survival Ascended with three main additions: the shapeshifting Enigmasaur, which is the final creature in Fantastic Tames Season 1, a free Giganotosaurus overhaul chosen by community vote, and the game’s upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.8.

According to the press release Oyun Günlüğü received from Studio Wildcard, the Enigmasaur fully transforms into other creatures rather than simply imitating them. Its disguise can be convincing enough to fool members of the species it copies. It can also keep some abilities learned from earlier transformations, which the studio illustrates with the example of a Rex carrying a scorpion’s sting. The Enigmasaur follows the Burrowbuck and the three-headed Cerberax as the third and final creature in the Fantastic Tames Season 1 bundle.

Giganotosaurus returns with a new look

The Giganotosaurus is back with a new look, greater aggression and a reworked taming process. The Ark community picked the creature during Extra Life 2025, and this free update is the third creature TLC to be chosen by player vote.

Tranquilizers and a safe vantage point are no longer enough to tame a Giga. Players must first prove themselves against some of Ark’s toughest threats. They then face a dangerous encounter that tests both their strength and their survival instincts. A tamed Giga gains a powerful new attack that combines a foot stomp with a tail slam. It can also share part of its fighting fury with nearby allies, rallying the whole tribe into battle.

Unreal Engine 5.8 brings visual and performance improvements

Ark: Survival Ascended also moved to Unreal Engine 5.8 the same day. The upgrade adds new rendering technologies that aim to improve performance while keeping the game’s detailed environments intact. Nanite Voxels renders foliage more efficiently and realistically. Lumen Lite offers a lighter approach to dynamic lighting for low-end PCs.

Fear Ascended and Dragontopia

The annual Fear Ascended event runs until November 11. It adds new ghostly creatures along with Halloween items such as coffin-themed furniture, pumpkin decorations and plushies.

Ark: Dragontopia, a premium expansion pass priced at $29.99, will get a major expansion on December 10 that adds a new skyworld. Dragontopia offers a vast aerial ecosystem where dragons rule the skies. The pass includes the following content:

  • Dragon Skill Trees, a progression system built around strengthening your bond with dragons
  • Specialized gear and tools
  • A draconic building tileset
  • Incubator backpacks
  • Mysterious potion stations

Ark: Survival Ascended is available on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Epic Games Store and Steam.
