Digital Extremes is opening the early alpha playtest of Soulframe to PC players worldwide on Friday, Nov. 6 under the name Soulframe Open Preludes. The public playtest will be free to play and arrives alongside a new update called Verse of the Veilands.
According to information Oyun Günlüğü obtained from Digital Extremes, the studio shared details on the Verse of the Veilands update, arriving in November, during its monthly Devstream. The update brings the highly anticipated Omen Wolf mount system, a new environmental world progression system and fresh fishing features.

“Soulframe has been a community-driven game from day one, shaped by the tight-knit group of players that joined us for Preludes, and now, we’re ready to grow that community even further. It feels a little scary to finally open the gates like this, but the introduction of mounts and world progression systems we revealed today is the right time so we can gather essential feedback on these features and everything we’ve worked on so far. The more players we have right now, the more helpful it is for our team to inform the direction Soulframe takes. Thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far.”
How to play Soulframe Open Preludes
Soulframe Open Preludes is a free alpha playtest version of the game, available to download for Windows PC from the official Soulframe website. First-time players will explore an open world full of secrets as they mend the land from a dark corruption, mastering combat styles and forging Pacts with Omen Beasts to channel ancient ancestral abilities.
Completing story-driven quests called Fables, discovering World Trees and releasing captive animals are just a few of the ways to unlock more systems and social features, including co-op multiplayer, crafting, customization and weapon progression. New features will be added frequently and will always be free, with the game evolving over time based on community feedback.
What’s new in Verse of the Veilands
After completing The Tormented Stag Fable, players can travel across Alca’s overworld and witness the latest corruption spread by the invading Ode forces through Veilands, a new environmental world progression system.
To unlock the Omen Wolf mount, players must first complete a wolf pup’s training and purify two Veilands regions. They can then mix ingredients to brew a Bairnday Biscuit and feed it to the pup so it grows into a fully fledged Omen Wolf mount. Digital Extremes says the feature will continue to develop in future updates.
The new character Pact, Ode Shrike, turns the invaders’ trapping power against them. It wields deployable spike traps, enemy-lifting balloon darts, damage-linking bola chains and an evasive throwing bomb.
The seasonal Bita’s Eve event is also returning. Players can seek out peculiar patches of Wintersquash and face Veltruska, a new headless horserider mini-boss, to earn limited-time rewards and a special fish called Sunken Terror. Full details are available in the patch notes.
