Frostpunk 2’s third expansion, The Surge, will launch on PC and consoles on December 14, 2026. Alongside the announcement, the release date trailer for the expansion, which offers a major story scenario with branching choices, has also been revealed.
According to information Oyun Günlüğü received from 11 bit studios, The Surge portrays a distant chapter of humankind’s survival. After a journey through the frozen remnants of the USA, your people reach a mysterious valley, drawn by rumors of a relic left behind by history’s greatest mind, one capable of reshaping the world itself. In this new region far beyond previous borders, players search for answers buried deep in the ice, guiding their people through one last step.
Turning the storm into a resource
At the heart of the expansion is a brand-new resource that can lift your city toward unprecedented prosperity and elevate city automation to levels never seen before. However, factions squabble over how it should be used, and the valley’s mysteries do not give up their secrets easily.
The Surge also lets players harness nature’s wrath. By deploying specialized storm-driven technology, catastrophic whiteouts can be converted into harvested and stored resources. Players will also venture into caves and ruins, uncover hidden treasures and face the mysteries of the valley. More details about the expansion are expected closer to launch.
The Frostpunk universe continues
11 bit studios stated that future support for Frostpunk 2 will be limited to maintenance. Still, according to the studio, the frost is far from thawing: The Frostpunk universe will continue with Frostpunk 1886 and an unannounced title in a new genre.
Meanwhile, 11 bit studios has also kicked off its publisher sale, offering discounts on games including Frostpunk 2, The Alters and its DLC, and Moonlighter.
