Nearly $400 million at the box office

Written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, Resident Evil has earned nearly $400 million worldwide. The eighth movie in the franchise, it is the second attempt at a reboot following 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Starring Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser, the movie follows Bryan, a medical courier making a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital who ends up fighting for his life when a sudden zombie outbreak hits. Set in the modern day, the movie mirrors the events of 1998’s Resident Evil 2 but tells an all-new story rather than recreating the games’ plot.

Netflix release expected

A DVD and Blu-ray release date has not been announced yet, and it is unclear whether the digital release includes any bonus features. Due to the output deal between Sony Pictures and Netflix, the movie is expected to come to Netflix later on. Estimates in the US press suggest it could start streaming on Netflix around late January 2027.
