Battle royale games
A multiplayer genre where dozens of players drop onto an empty map and try to be the last one standing in a shrinking zone.

What is the battle royale genre?
Battle royale matches always follow the same frame: A large group of players lands on the map with nothing, gears up with weapons and equipment found on the ground, the playable area shrinks round by round and the last one standing wins. This simple rule turns every match into a different story.
The tension comes from the shrinking zone. As time passes, hiding becomes impossible, fights become unavoidable and the final circle is often over in seconds. With no respawns, a single wrong decision ends the match, which gives weight to every fight.
What defines it?
Everyone lands on equal terms, with nothing in hand.
As the playable area gets smaller, encounters become inevitable.
There are no respawns; death means the end of your match.
Where you land and when you fight matter as much as your aim.

Frequently asked questions
Are battle royale games free?
Most of them use a free-to-play model and make money from cosmetics or seasonal passes. Paid examples exist, but the genre is mostly concentrated on the free side.
Why does every match feel so different?
Because your landing spot, the gear you find and where the circle closes change every time. Even on the same map, no two matches play out the same way.
