Skyrim: Basic commands

These are the most used commands in the Skyrim console. It helps to know the difference between god mode and immortal mode. One stops you from taking any damage, while the other keeps you from dying even though you keep taking damage. The walk-through-walls command is the fastest way out of a spot where you are stuck.

Most codes here need cheats turned on first. See the section on how to open the console.

Basic commands: Common questions

What is the difference between god mode and immortal mode?
In god mode you take no damage at all, and your magicka and stamina never run out. In immortal mode you take damage and your health drops, but you do not die and drop to one knee instead. God mode is the more complete of the two.
I am stuck somewhere. What should I do?
Turn on the walk-through-walls command, get out of the spot you are stuck in, then turn the command off. It is the standard fix for getting stuck in Skyrim's scenery.
How do I apply a command to a specific character?
With the console open, click that character or object on screen. Its ID number appears at the top of the console, and the commands you type now apply to it.
