The Raiders of the North expansion for Age of Empires 4 is now available on Steam for $19.99. Centered on the struggle for dominion over the North Sea, the expansion adds two new civilizations, the Vikings and the Scots, while giving the Crucible mode a complete overhaul.
According to information Oyun Günlüğü obtained from the official Age of Empires announcement, the expansion, listed on Steam with an October 29 date, also includes two new biomes, Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer, as well as new music, taunts, Boons and a brand new talent track. The developers also noted that the launch update includes additional fixes and changes that were not part of the 17.0 Preview.
The Scots: An infantry and defense-focused civilization
Stretching from the rugged Highlands to the fertile Lowlands, the Scots are an infantry-focused civilization that invests in powerful technology and can quickly muster warriors to protect their kingdom. Hardened by their unforgiving lands, they excel at ambushing enemies from stealth forests. Known for disciplined infantry and fortified defenses, the civilization runs a unique food economy built around protecting grazing Highland Cattle and establishing communal Fishponds. The fearless Gallowglass meet enemies head on, while the Border Reivers strike deep into enemy territory.
The Vikings: Relentless raids
Drawing from the history of the Viking Age, the Vikings offer a playstyle built around relentless raids with mobile and adaptable infantry. Sagas mark the civilization’s accomplishments, Völur seers help guide its path and the Longhouse serves as the backbone of its economy, while Berserkers stand ready for the next charge.
The Crucible reforged
Alongside Raiders of the North, the Crucible mode receives new and updated content, a massive balance update and improvements based on player feedback. Owners of the expansion gain exclusive access to four new Crucible missions featuring fresh challenges such as seaborne raiders and civil war among Scottish clans. The mode is now playable solo or in two-player co-op, with co-op support extending to existing missions as well.
The updated mode brings new Objectives, points of interest, Boons, Perks, Mutators and civilization-specific Talent Tracks. A new progression system with unlockable Boons and Boon Ascension has also been added, while Conqueror Mode expands with 25 new weekly mutators.
