Fallout 4: Item and caps commands

Adding items in Fallout 4 works through ID numbers. Caps and bobby pins have fixed IDs, but for other items you need to find the ID with the search command. Once you learn the search command, you can reach every item in the game.

Most codes here need cheats turned on first. See the section on how to open the console.

Item and caps commands: Common questions

What is the Fallout 4 money cheat?
The game's currency is caps. You type the caps ID and the amount you want into the add item command. The ID is fixed, so you can simply copy and paste it.
How do I find the ID of the item I want?
Type the item's English name in quotation marks into the search command, and the console lists the matching records with their IDs. Use the Page Up and Page Down keys to scroll through the list.
The item I added does not show up in my inventory.
You may have typed the ID wrong. Also, some items land in the components tab rather than the weapons tab. Check the ID again with the search command.
