What is Chest used for?
The chest is the standard way to store items in Minecraft. It is made from eight planks and holds 27 slots.
Place two chests side by side and they become one large chest with 54 slots. A chest will not open with a solid block on top of it, so keep the top clear when you build storage (it also will not open while a cat sits on it).
Combined with hoppers, it forms the basis of automatic storage systems. Leaving valuable materials in a chest before a risky trip is also a classic habit, so nothing is lost if you die.
