Terraria: Research and duplication

The research system is the heart of Journey Mode. When you collect enough of an item, you research it, and that item becomes infinitely duplicable. Common items such as blocks need hundreds, while a single weapon or piece of armor is enough. Everything you research stays available in endless supply in the duplication menu.

Most codes here need cheats turned on first. See the section on how to open the console.

Research and duplication: Common questions

How do I research an item?
Drop the item into the research slot in your inventory. The menu shows how many you need, and once you reach that number, the item is researched and can be duplicated endlessly.
How many of each item does it take?
It depends on the type of item. Blocks and common materials need hundreds, while a single weapon, piece of armor or accessory is enough.
Are there items that cannot be researched?
Some special items and quest rewards are not part of the research system. You can tell when the menu refuses to accept an item.
