Stronghold Crusader: Gold, popularity and building cheats

The Definitive Edition cheat menu has three options that ease your economy. The +1000 Gold option adds 1,000 gold with every click, while Reset Popularity sets your popularity to 100. Free buildings mode lets you build without spending wood, stone or gold, and Alt + K switches it on and off. The first two have no default hotkey, so you click them in the menu. All three turn off achievements until you restart.

Gives 1,000 gold

Cheat menu > +1000 Gold

Adds 1,000 gold to your treasury with every click. You can use it as often as you like, and it has no default hotkey.

  1. Open the options with Esc, go to Options and click the chicken icon.
  2. Click the +1000 Gold option in the menu.
  3. Close the menu and you will see your gold counter go up.
Achievements stay off until you fully close and reopen the game.

Sets popularity to 100

Cheat menu > Reset Popularity

Raises your popularity to 100 at that moment. It drops again if your people go hungry or taxes are high, and it has no default hotkey.

Turns on free buildings mode

Alt + K

Buildings go up without costing wood, stone or gold. The same key turns it off, and placement rules still apply.

  1. Tick the Enable Cheat Keys box in the cheat menu.
  2. Press Alt + K in a game and building costs disappear.
  3. Press Alt + K again to turn it off. Instead of the hotkey, you can also use the Enable Free Buildings option in the menu.
Mines and farms still have to go on suitable ground. Achievements stay off until you restart the game.

Gold, popularity and building cheats: Common questions

What is the Stronghold Crusader Definitive Edition gold cheat?
Every click on the +1000 Gold option in the cheat menu adds 1,000 gold to your treasury. You can use it again as often as you like. No hotkey is assigned to it by default.
Is the popularity cheat permanent?
No. Reset Popularity sets your popularity to 100 at that moment, but it starts to drop again if your people go hungry or taxes are high. Used without fixing rations and taxes, its effect is short-lived.
Can I place buildings anywhere in free buildings mode?
No. The mode only removes the wood, stone and gold costs; placement rules still apply. An iron mine still has to go on an iron deposit, and a wheat farm still needs fertile oasis ground.
Why is Alt + K not working?
Hotkeys only work when the Enable Cheat Keys box in the cheat menu is ticked. If the box is empty, you can turn on free buildings with the Enable Free Buildings option in the menu. In Sands of Time missions you also need to switch on the setting that removes the time requirements.
