What is a typing speed test?
A typing speed test is a short exercise that measures how fast and accurately your fingers move on the keyboard. You type the target text on screen as accurately and quickly as you can within a set time. When time runs out, you get your WPM (words per minute), accuracy percentage and raw WPM. Taking tests regularly clearly improves both your typing reflexes and how smoothly you turn thoughts into text.
How to read your results
- WPM: Calculated from correctly typed characters only. One word counts as 5 characters. This is your "real, usable speed".
- Raw WPM: Shows your full typing speed including mistakes. High raw with low WPM means you type fast but make many errors.
- Accuracy: Tells you how many of your key presses were correct. Above 95 percent is ideal; below 85 percent, slowing down and building rhythm is the faster way to improve.
What counts as a good result?
The general average is around 40 WPM. Most active keyboard users sit in the 50 to 70 WPM range. Professional writers and developers reach 70 to 90 WPM, and top-level users 100+ WPM. But speed alone is not enough; if accuracy drops below 95 percent, the speed advantage melts away in practice. The ideal goal: Raise your WPM step by step while keeping accuracy at 95 or higher.
Frequently asked questions
What is WPM and how is it calculated?
The number of correctly typed characters divided by five, divided by the elapsed time in minutes. A standard word counts as 5 characters.
What is the difference between WPM and raw WPM?
Raw WPM counts your full speed including mistakes; WPM only counts correct characters. The gap between them shows your accuracy level.
What WPM should I expect on average?
The general average is 40 WPM. Professional users reach 70 to 90, top level 100+. 60 WPM with 95 percent accuracy is enough for everyday productivity.
Can I take the test in Turkish too?
Yes. Switch the language to Türkçe for passages with ş, ğ, ç, ü, ö and ı. Every correct character counts toward your WPM; your keyboard layout does not matter.
Can I save my result when the test ends?
For now, tests are tied to your browser session. You can take a screenshot or share it on social media. Automatic saving will come in a later version.
