Minecraft /give command

Puts any item you want, in any amount, straight into the inventory.

🎒 Item commands Operator (level 2) Needs cheats enabled Java Edition 26.3

Syntax

/give <targets> <item> [<count>]
/give <targets> <item>[<components>] [<count>]

Parts in square brackets are optional, parts in angle brackets are required. You do not type the brackets: Put your own value in their place.

Arguments

ArgumentWhat it does
<item> The item's in-game ID: diamond, iron_pickaxe, oak_planks and so on.
[<count>] How many to give. Go over the stack size and you get more than one stack.
[<components>] Item components in square brackets: Name, enchantments, durability and so on.

Examples

/give @s diamond 64

Gives you a stack of diamonds.

/give @s netherite_pickaxe

Gives you a netherite pickaxe.

/give @s diamond_sword[enchantments={sharpness:5}]

Gives you a diamond sword with Sharpness 5.

/give @a cooked_beef 32

Hands out 32 steaks to everyone.

Good to know

  • If you do not know the item ID, look at the item in Creative mode and turn on advanced tooltips with F3 + H.
  • In 1.20.5, the old NBT tags gave way to item components; that is the square bracket syntax.
  • If the inventory is full, the item drops on the ground.

How do I run this command?

Press T in game to open chat (or press / directly), type the command and press Enter. While typing, Tab completes the options. This command counts as a cheat: It needs cheats enabled in a singleplayer world, and operator permission on a server (operator (level 2)).
