Shelly, Brawl Stars character

Shelly

Ranger · Starting brawler

Common Damage Dealer

Shelly is the first brawler you have when you start Brawl Stars, and one of the best characters for learning the basics of the game. Her shotgun deals high damage at close range, and her Super breaks walls and knocks enemies back. She is easy to learn, yet her skill ceiling is surprisingly high; played well, she crushes most brawlers in close combat.

How to unlock Shelly

You do not have to do anything to unlock Shelly: She is yours automatically the first time you start the game. Since her rarity is Common (Starting Brawler), you can play her right away without dealing with Starr Drops or the upgrade system. That makes her the ideal character for trying out every brawler mechanic first (aiming, charging your Super, using bushes).

Attack and Super

Attack

Buckshot

A shotgun blast that fires five shells in a fan. Because the shells spread, accuracy and damage drop as the distance grows; her real strength is at close range. The closer you are to the enemy, the more shells hit and the more the damage stacks up.

Super

Super Shell

A wide, powerful wave of exploding shells. It deals high damage, destroys the walls and obstacles in front of it and knocks back the enemies it hits. It is used both for burst damage and for pushing enemies off the objective (Brawl Ball, Gem Grab).

Star Powers

Shell Shock star power

Shell Shock

The shells from her Super slow the enemies they hit for a few seconds. A strong control tool for pinning down fleeing opponents, chasing them and focusing them with your team. It is usually the first Star Power players pick.

Band-Aid star power

Band-Aid

When her health drops below a certain threshold, Shelly instantly heals herself. Once triggered, it needs to recharge. It greatly improves her survival in aggressive play and is especially useful in Showdown.

Gadgets

Fast Forward gadget

Fast Forward

Shelly dashes in the direction she is aiming and fully reloads her ammo at the same time. A versatile engage and escape tool for ambushes, closing the distance or getting out of danger.

Clay Pigeons gadget

Clay Pigeons

Focuses her next attacks into a narrower area and extends their range. It temporarily lets Shelly, normally a close-range brawler, deal accurate damage from long range.

Shelly tips and strategy

  • Use the bushes: When Shelly ambushes and unloads Buckshot at close range, she melts most brawlers in a single exchange.
  • Do not spend your Super only on damage; breaking walls or pushing enemies off the objective (the Brawl Ball goal, the Gem Grab center) is often worth more.
  • Slow down fleeing opponents with Shell Shock and chase them; pick Band-Aid to survive aggressive dives.
  • When you need damage from range, extend your range temporarily with the Clay Pigeons Gadget.
  • Be careful on open, long-range maps; against brawlers with a range advantage, Shelly should approach using corners and obstacles.

Common questions

How do you unlock Shelly?

You do not need to do anything to unlock Shelly; she is yours automatically when you first start the game. Since her rarity is Common (Starting Brawler), she does not require Starr Drops or any other unlock.

Is Shelly a good brawler?

Yes, especially for beginners. She deals high damage at close range, her mechanics are simple and, played well, she is competitive at higher levels too. She is easy to learn and has a lot of potential.

What is the best Shelly Star Power?

Most players pick Shell Shock, because slowing enemies with her Super gives strong control. If you want a more aggressive, survival-focused playstyle, Band-Aid is also a good choice.

Which modes is Shelly good in?

She shines in modes where she can use her close-range advantage: Maps with bushes, Showdown and Brawl Ball. On open, long-range maps, you need to approach carefully using obstacles.

What do Shelly's Gadgets do?

Fast Forward dashes Shelly forward and reloads her ammo (for ambushes or escapes); Clay Pigeons narrows her attacks and extends their range so you can deal accurate damage from afar.
