Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has shared new details about the long-awaited 1.7 update. Barone said the update is set to be the biggest in the game’s history and will probably arrive next year.
According to a concert video shared on Reddit, as reported by Oyun Günlüğü, Barone made the comments on October 25 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, which hosted the final concert of the Stardew Valley: Symphony of Seasons tour. His on-stage speech was posted to the Stardew Valley subreddit by a fan who attended the show.
After reflecting on how incredible the game’s growth has been, Barone said: “We’re working on the 1.7 update, which is looking to be the largest Stardew Valley update ever. It’s jam-packed.” He added: “Clint and Sandy are just the tip of the iceberg – there’s so much more in the update. You guys are in for a real treat, and it’ll probably come out sometime next year.”
Bigger than 1.5 and 1.6
Barone had previously confirmed that Clint and Sandy will become marriage candidates in 1.7 and that the update will add a new farm type. He had also teased new social features. According to his latest comments, 1.7 will be even bigger than the 1.5 and 1.6 updates, which added new regions, festivals and more.
In September, Barone also shared three cryptic clues about the update on the game’s official Discord server: “two paths will be extended”, “three will become four” and “the mermaid’s fruit will go free”. He has not yet explained what the clues mean.
Haunted Chocolatier still has a while to go
Since Barone did not give an exact release date, it is not yet clear when in 2027 the update will launch. Barone also addressed his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, during the speech, noting that it will still be a while before it releases. He previously said the game is “taking a long time”, but that getting it right is his priority.
